Glossybox vs Birchbox - April 2016

Now I'm not subscribed to a monthly subscription box, but have previously done one-off boxes with Birchbox. This month, I decided to try Glossybox, but also couldn't resist the Birchbox as they teamed up with one of my favourite stationery brands Rifle Paper Co. As I bought two this month, I thought I'd do a bit of a comparison post, as I've never really known what subscription box is better.

When looking at the two boxes together, it's clear that the Glossybox is bigger, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's got more in it, as both boxes had 5 products in.

Birchbox + Rifle Paper Co

Lets start with the Birchbox first, as this is the one I've had previously. The design of the box is lovely, and I'm looking forward to using it for storage, as I have my other boxes. When opening the box, I found a voucher code for Rifle Paper Co, as well as the notebooks I ordered with my box (they were discounted) and then the normal Birchbox bag holding my items. Inside the bag I found:

Dew The Hoola by Benefit Cosmetics

I knew that I was getting a Benefit sample in my box this month, and when looking at the available samples I knew I wanted to try this one. This is the new liquid version of one of Benefit's best-selling bronzers, and I'm quite excited to try it. I've heard people rave about their collection of bronzer, but I'm not a huge wearer so have never tried them. The sample is a sixth of the full size with an RRP of £22.50, so is worth £3.75.

Black Eyeliner by Cynthia Rowley Beauty

Now I'm not really one to wear a pencil eyeliner, as I absolutely love my Soap & Glory Supercat, so this product was a little disappointing for me. I already have a few black eyeliner pencils in my makeup bag, that rarely get worn, so I probably didn't need another. This is a full size pencil, worth £11, so it's a pretty good steal, but definitely not something I'd have bought separately.

Huile Prodigieuse by Nuxe

I've never really been one to try a dry oil, but after trying this sample I'm sold. This multi-purpose oil is lovely to use on the dry patches on my face, but can also be used all over the body and in the ends of the hair. It's extremely hydrating and I'm definitely a fan - it's just a shame it's such a small sample! The 50ml bottle sells for £17, so this 10ml sample is worth £3.40.

Hydro Nutritive Repairing Shampoo by Beaver Professional

This is a product I'd actually tried before, because I had it in a previous box. It's a little annoying that they'd sent the same product twice, but I did actually quite like it first time round. As well as the 40ml sample (£1.70) there was also a sachet of the matching conditioner, which I also received last time round.

Foot Care Cream by Kueshi

Although I'm a big fan of Soap & Glory's Heel Genius, I often neglect my feet. As the summer is coming up I really need to start using a foot cream again. This Kueshi one is extremely moisturising and cooling, and was a nice treat in my box. It retails at £12 for 100ml, so this 40ml sample is worth £4.80!

Overall, the products are worth £24.65, with the box costing me £10 + postage. It's not too bad, but I wasn't really happy with 2/5 of the products in the box - the eyeliner and the shampoo as I'd received it previously.

Now I was pretty excited to order a Glossybox this month, as I'd heard great things about them and after having mixed feelings about the Birchbox I was surprised it took me so long to try it. The box is quite simple, and I'm assuming it's the same every month but I was excited to see what was inside:

Mosaic Compact Powder in Sunkissed Beauty by Essence

This full-size bronzer looks absolutely gorgeous, and the mixture of colours in it look extremely natural. It's a good shade for me, has a lovely scent to it and has a really gentle shimmer. It's definitely a product I'll be making use of, and although it's quite a budget product at £3 I'm pretty happy with it.

Whitening Toothpaste by Swiss Smile

Now I try and use a whitening toothpaste, as my teeth are slightly discoloured, so this was a great find in my box. I believe this is the full-size,  which usually costs £28.95, and I'm excited to give it a try. I've never had a whitening toothpaste really make much difference to my teeth, so I'd definitely be interested to see if this does.

Brow Lift Perfecting Liner by Studio 10

I love this product! I always play around with different things for my brows, but this pencil seems great. It's double ended, with the brow pencil and then a highlighter for under the brows, and definitely seems like the full-size which usually costs £22. I also love that Studio 10 are giving one brow pencil to the charity look good feel better for every one sold in the UK and Australia.

Intensive Moisturising Cream by Bandi

I'm always trying new moisturisers for my face, as I have fairly dry skin and can never find anything to combat it. This cream is extremely light but leaves my face feeling lovely and smooth after use. I reckon it'd be perfect under makeup! This is only a 30ml sample, worth about £1.50, but it's still a really great size.

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Face Oil by The Body Shop

Now this is the cutest little sample I've ever seen! It's a 7ml version of the usual 30ml product, but still comes in a bottle with a little pipet - it's so cute! It smells gorgeous, and as a newby to facial oil I'm quite excited to try it. Although it's little, the full size retails in at £28, so this sample is still worth £5.60!

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with my first Glossybox, with the products worth over £60! I'm happy with every product that I received, and I can't wait for my next box!

Out of the two boxes, I definitely felt like the Glossybox was much better value, and the products inside are such great sizes. If I'm to go for another box in the future it will definitely be that one out of the two of them, although I do like that the Birchbox has different designs on it's boxes!

Do you get a subscription box? Let me know which you get and whether it's worth giving it a try!
