Under Their Covers

Have you ever taken a dust jacket off a book, to see what's underneath? It's such a fun thing to do. Not only do most authors have to think about their book covers, but when it's a hardback and there's a dust jacket, they often have something different underneath. I decided to spend a little time this week looking at the hardback books I owned, and I picked out three of my favourites to share with you.

It's Not Me, It's You by Mhairi McFarlane
The cover of this is one of my favourites I've seen in a long time. The turquoise, the pink, the gold. It's just gorgeous. Under the cover, you're presented with a gold book, with nothing printed on the front or back. On the spine, you'll see the title and author embossed in white. It's extremely simple, but extremely effective. I love the choice of gold, and just how beautiful it looks.

All I Know Now by Carrie Hope Fletcher
Now if you've got this book, and haven't had a look under the dust jacket what are you waiting for?! It's definitely one of my favourites, as you can see the amount of thought that's gone into this by Carrie and her team. The spine is the same as the main cover, but the best bit is the yellow and purple stars and flowers, and then the hopeful logo on the back and definition on the front. It's so unexpected to find, and it just makes the book so much more wonderful than it is already.

After You by Jojo Moyes
Again, this book is extremely simple, but super effective. The main cover has glimpses of rose gold, so the use of them on the spine is such a lovely way to link both. The main cover itself is white, and there's just the title/author written on the spine in rose gold. Honestly, I don't think it needs anything else, as it's simple and elegant, and just looks beautiful with or without the dust jacket.

Have you got a hardback that has a great cover under the dust jacket? Send me a picture or let me know what it is!
